Find me on linked in,
My name is Brittany I am the owner of Blue Orchid Holistic Wellness Clinic, as while as a mother and wife. This is my story on how I started my holistic journey and am making this non-profit clinic a reality.
My journey started in late 2012 after my daughter was born. I had a "no problem" pregnancy and didn't think much of the things that I was eating, the things I used to clean with, my beauty/hygiene products, and everything in between. Four months after my daughter was born her pediatrician sent us to a dermatologist, because she had a scar on her check that would not heal. I noticed it the day she was born but I just thought it was a scratch and nothing more. After visiting the dermatologist my entire life changed. I was told that my daughter had a type of skin cancer and that she would have to have surgery to remove it. The next few months consisted of an emotional roller coaster to say the least.
My daughter had surgery at six months old to remove her skin cancer; thankfully it was a successful one. However, I still had no answers as to why my daughter was born with skin cancer and I was told, by doctors, that I would never get answers. My family tried to tell me the same thing and told me to just be grateful for the blessings that I did receive. I was grateful that nothing else bad happened, however, my intuition kept nagging at me that something was wrong and I was to blame for it.
During all this time, from when my daughter was born to after her surgery, I wasn't feeling well myself. I was always sore, had no energy, and just didn't feel like myself. I figured this was normal after a pregnancy and plus all the stress I went through with my daughter. I had done a lot of research for my daughter and found out a lot of things and reasons as to why she was born with skin cancer. I was not happy to find out that it was indeed my fault, indirectly my fault, but still happened because of my stupidity.
I found out that because of my diet, beauty/hygiene regimen, and my cleaning products were to blame for all that happened to her as well as my problems I was having. So I decided that I was going to make changes to our life, for the better. It has been a hard road self-teaching myself how to have a holistic approach to our lives.
Even with making all these positive changes to our lives, I was not getting better and in fact I was getting worse. So I went to see my doctor and to find out what was going on with me. She found out that I had some cysts and a large fibroid mass around my uterus. I had surgery to remove these things and was also diagnosed with deep-seeded endometriosis. The only thing that the surgery helped with was my stomach cramps and period, but nothing else. It was now the beginning of 2015 and I could barely walk, the pain was just too much. I also had many of other problems beside the pain; major depression and anxiety, extreme fatigue, and no motivation just to name a few. All of these problems were feeding off of each other and made it very difficult to manage them.
I went to my doctor, who told me she can't help me. So I was sent to another doctor, and they only tried to give me pharmaceuticals and never did any testing. Again I found another doctor and then another, and another. After a year and 15 doctors later, including specialty doctors and primary doctors, I still had no answers. I finally gave up on doctors and self-diagnosed myself with all the research I had done. As soon as I did this I started developing the dream for this clinic. I had decided that not only was I going to change my health around I was going to do it for others as well.
A few months passed by and I went to a seminar at my local hospital and meet a primary care doctor that was teaching about a holistic approach to pain conditions. I made an appointment with this doctor to learn more about what he talked about in the seminar. I told him this entire story and he was surprised to find out that I was taking my care into my own hands and happy to know that I was starting to get better. He ordered lots of lab work for me and 27 vials of blood later we found out that I was correct about my condition. Plus we also found out that I had lots of vitamin deficiencies and a thyroid condition as well. He helped me adjust my care plan I was already doing and 6 months later I am walking on my own and my test results are improving.
It's the beginning of 2017 now and I am more excited than ever to start my path to become a Doctor of Naturopathy. I have spent a lot of time working on fixing myself and my family and I want to share the information that has saved my life with you! I want to help you succeed, as I did, with your health.
