I have recently come across a book by Ashlee Mayer, who runs a blog called “The Crunchy Moose.” This book called “The No Poo Method” is about not using traditional hair care products that you buy in the store. Most traditional hair care products have tons of chemicals and toxins in them that are not good for you or your hair. You can buy products that are sulfate free or paraben free, however they still are not the best option. I was very impressed with the “No Poo Method,” that Ashlee has put together, and am excited to share it with all of you.
There are two pdf downloads when you purchase her book, the first is the “Getting Started Guide” and the second is “Your Guide to Natural Hair Care.” As a bonus for purchasing her book you will also get a 20 minute “Getting Started Video Guide.” The first download is a brief booklet about which hair type you have, and her choices on the best options for shampoo and conditioner. If you do not know your hair type she explains how to figure it out in her book. The second download is the main book about 80 pages long, and worth every page. Her book is written straight and to the point that made it a very fast and easy to read. Her guide includes 20+ recipes for hair care products and includes sections about; natural hair coloring, using essential oils for hair, feeding and caring for your hair, and no heat styling. Brief “No Poo Method” Description from Ashlee Mayer
When I first started no poo, the process appeared easy. A little baking soda, a splash of vinegar, and voila! My hair would be awesome!
But it's not that simple. Too much baking soda and you could end up with dry damaged hair. Too little vinegar and you could end up with frizzy hair. The baking soda and vinegar method is just one of many, many no poo methods and does not work well with all hair types. And don't even get me started on hair porosity. If you don't know detailed information about your hair type (including porosity), you will probably use the wrong no poo methods for your hair, which is why so many people attempt no poo but end up quitting. The No Poo Method walks you through every step of the process. From discovering your hair characteristics so you can create a unique routine designed for your hair needs to trouble shooting. During the last few years, I have done extensive research about the no poo method. And I have tried countless DIY recipes on my hair. I have talked to hundreds of no poo-ers to find out what works for different hair types. I have compiled all of that information into one informative book to help you transition into the amazing world of no poo. The No Poo Method eBook Includes:
I learned things about my hair I had no idea about. I knew about chemicals and toxins in beauty products, but I didn’t know my diet and pH balance can affect my hair too. By using the guide I learned that I have low porosity, oily, high density hair. I have been using lots of different shampoos and conditioners and always had the problem of crunchy, oily looking hair when it would air dry after a shower. I started my no poo journey yesterday, April 1st, with the baking soda and apple cider vinegar rinse. I’m already happy with the results! When my hair air dried it was not crunchy, and a lot less oily. I’m excited to continue my long journey with The No Poo Method!
