These 13 Tips to a Happier Life really resonates with my Mission for the Blue Orchid Clinic. These tips are helpful for not only day to day life but also are for everyone on every walk of life! This list is not in order or importance, it is just a list of things to consider when it comes to putting more smiles on your face and making you happy. Being a minimalist has lots of definitions, however when it comes to the context of your life it is a literal meaning. What do you see when you look around your home? How about your life in general? How much clutter do you have in your life around you and in your head? The purpose of being a minimalist is to get rid of all that clatter in your life. It can be something simple as you have too many drinking glasses in your kitchen and only use two. Or it can be something as big as you are a shopaholic or straight up hoarder. You need to declutter your physical life in order to have more smiles on your face. Decluttering your emotional life is a little more difficult. Being a mental minimalist is different for everyone and is hard to explain. The purpose of being a mental minimalist is just to stop worrying about things you can’t control and make decisions instead of continuing to have the problem fog your mind. What are you doing with your life? Are you just living day to day, going through the motions of life without a second thought as to why? What do you do all day? Giving your life a goal, purpose or meaning does not have to be something extravagant. It can be something as simple as giving yourself a hobby. Give yourself something to look forward to in the long run. My Goal for my life is to grow this clinic into a nationwide non-profit organization and live debt free. I have goals to meet along the way to get there and I have more personal goals such as finding better treatment for people that live with chronic pain. My hobbies are Yoga and Crocheting, those help me to relax and de stress from day. A goal can be whatever you make it! Nothing is too small or too big, if you can DREAM it! What kind of habits or routines do you have in your life currently? Are they good or bad habits, it is much easier in today’s society to create bad habits. What good habits do you what to add to your life? What bad habits do you want out of your life? Discuss with yourself and your family about what kind of habits you want for yourself and your family. Do you want to start exercising? How about a weekly family night? Do you want to stop smoking? What is holding you back from achieving these things? Do you forget to do simple things every day or even occasionally? Did you remember to brush your teeth this morning? Simple things like this we know to do every day can be easily forgotten. They don’t just have to be in regards to your hygiene. Set aside an hour a week to make all your personal calls you don’t do all the time, like those pesky Doctor appointments. Get yourself into a daily routine to remember these things if you forget them. Make a daily or weekly checklist, Google calendar has a wonderful app where you can set up one time or recurring reminders and goals. Another good one to keep track of family schedules is the cozi app or cozi.com. Socializing is one of the easy things that just slips our mind. Most people work a typical 9 to 5 or retail type job and consider that to be socializing. However, that is not the case. Socializing should be a time to go out and enjoy yourself, while meeting new people. Socializing can be any activity you like. I understand that most activities people enjoy cost money but there are tons that do not. Meetup.com is my favorite place to go to, to find local gathering and activities. If you don’t find anything you like or it’s too far away then start your own meetup group. It’s that easy. Forgiveness is my no means an easy thing. For some people it comes easy to them to forgive someone else and then there are those that will hold that grudge over another’s head for 50 plus years. Regardless of the situation or why that person needs your forgiveness, you shouldn’t hold on to it. Grudges are poisonous to your health. Forgiveness is an avenue to let you get rid of the negativity in your life. You will grow stronger the more you forgive. Don’t let anger control your life. You can’t get ahead if you are always trying to get even. Doing something new is a fun and easy thing to do. Is there something that you want to do, learn or experience that you never have had the chance to do? What is on your “bucket list?” This is one of the easiest things to think and dream about doing. Now comes the hard part, actually doing it. Do you have the guts to take that first step and do it? What is holding you back from trying something new? What can you do to overcome that obstacle and do something new? Happiness is something that comes and goes in life. For some people misery just seems to follow them around and for others nothing has ever gotten to them. What kind of life have you had? Do you let your past control your future? Look at your life in the mirror and find out what is making you unhappy. Get to the root of the problem. This is one of those things that can be very big or very small. Looking back on my life is by no means enjoyable so I have adopted the phase “Keep Moving Forward” to keep me looking towards my future and keep me happy. However, on the other end of things what keeps my sister happy is rearranging her furniture every few weeks. Everyone has a different cork that keeps them happy or holds them back. What is yours? Is it helping you or hindering you? Is there something you dread doing? Is there something your significant other keeps doing that bothers you, but you don’t tell them about it? What change can you make in your life to keep that smile on your face? Money can make or break someone. It is one of those things that has become a necessary evil in today’s society. So the question is, does money control you or do you control your money? Money can make you happy if it is used properly. Many people today do not know how to use money properly because we were never taught how to. We learn from our parents and if our parents didn’t know how to use it right then neither do we. The good thing is that there is a solution to learn how to use money right and being financially free doesn’t have to be a dream. You can live debt free if you choose to. (I host a DIY Life Workshop if you wish to learn more or a one on one.) Gratitude is probably you haven’t heard about since high school. You heard a lot about how you should be grateful for all you have and that your parents have done for you. However, that is really the wrong time to learn about gratitude. Teenage hormones are too high and even worse if there are on any prescription medication, not to mention other teen temptations. So, I want you to take a step back and look around you. What do you see? Do you have a roof over your head? Do you have someone you can call a friend? Or how about a lover? Do you have a family? Do you have a job/career? How about something as simple as the computer or phone you are using to read this blog? If you answered yes to even one of those things then you should be grateful. Be thankful for what you have in your life. And yes you may think my life isn’t that great I don’t have a bigger house or a new car. My reply to you is that yes you may not have those things but guess what you could have nothing and be homeless. There will always be someone out that that has better things then you and there will always be someone out that has worse things then you. What you need to do is help the people that have worse things then you; they need a helping hand too (see #12). A lot of people take their health for granted or wait till the last minute to get help. Regardless if you believe me or not, there are a lot of cases of Doctor’s misdiagnosing there patients. This happens in the holistic field too, don’t get me wrong. However, you shouldn’t wait when it comes to your health. Nutrition is a key to a healthy life, yet not a lot of people know what nutrition actually is. They don’t teach us that in school and because of today’s society, good nutrition can be expensive. For example; when you don’t have lots of money and you’re hungry. Most people go to a fast food place and easily get a burger for a dollar versus buying a salad for six times the cost. Unfortunately this is another sad truth with today’s society. All we can do is learn how to make better decisions because those businesses are not going anywhere any time soon. All it takes is one simple change to change your health and life for the better. (I host a Nutrition & Freezer Meal Workshop if you wish to learn more or a one on one.) Challenging yourself is again one of those easy things that can be easily forgotten. When it comes to challenging yourself, it can be both physically or mentally. What is your challenge? Do you want to run faster or longer? Do you want to learn to type faster? Do you want to be more flexible? Or simply just be able to walk again? Challenging yourself can be a good thing. Make your goals/challenges attainable. I’m sorry we can’t be Batman (LOL). If you don’t make your goal attainable then you are setting yourself up for failure and that is not what we are trying to accomplish here. You want to look back and say “That’s right I did do that, it felt great!” and do it again with your next goal/challenge. When was the last time you helped out someone you saw in need? Helping others is something a lot of people are scared to do. Or people don’t like to accept help because they have been burned by it. We have all heard those stories about it and we get scared. But why? Why can’t you help your elderly neighbor with taking her garbage cans to her curb? Why can’t you help out someone you know of and see regularly with something they might be struggling with? How about just plain old volunteer work? How many times have you needed help with something and never got it? How many times have you thought no one cares about me because they don’t even smile at you, to acknowledge your existence? Why do you have to keep continuing that vicious cycle over and over? Like we touched on in #9 everyone needs a helping hand, so extend yours and soon you will see them come your way too! And besides it feels good to help someone out, you’ll see. Be Yourself! Be Unique! Don’t lose yourself in the pursuit to please others or fit in with the crowd. Being yourself is one of those things that sometimes is frowned upon. I don’t agree with it one bit and neither should you. So what if you are a grown man that watches “My Little Ponies” with his daughter even if she left the room and you haven’t noticed (LOL). So what if you have tattoos, why do you have to hide them? If you respect others for who they are or what they like, then why can’t you be yourself? Treat others the way you want to be treated and you we all should have no problem getting along. It shouldn’t matter how we look on the outside but who we are on the inside. Be nice to others and show your respect and in return get the same back! I will be happy to help anyone willing to change their life for the better, regardless of how small or big there change is.
